This is how you know someone’s got too much time on their hands…
This man spent MONTHS (no joke!) gluing matches together to for a sphere. He embarked on the project after realizing that because the tips of matches are slightly wider than the body, they would form a sphere if enough were glued together.
From there, he set out to construct his sphere, which took about 42,000 matches to complete over a 10 month period. This guy’s patience is amazing!
He did the ENTIRE job in a metal shop, which is a mystery on its own… How did he keep sparks away from it during construction? Perhaps he was just lucky.
Here it is, near completion… It’s not a perfect sphere – that would have been really hard to do, but it’s still pretty close! Not every match is exactly the same, and he was aligning them manually. Each individual match was placed by hand into the sphere and hot-glued into place.
But now, you’re all asking… DID HE BURN IT?! He hesitated for “Almost two years. I hesitated so hard.” After all, this thing took almost a full year to create… What would happen if he burned it? Would it turn to ash, or would it keep its shape? In the end, he had to find out.
So, he burned it. He even had the foresight and kindness to film it and share it on YouTube:
