The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) revealed that starting next year, passengers can use their smartphones to pay when boarding buses and the metro.

The ARTM announced that the new feature will be rolled out gradually, beginning in summer 2025. However, the option to pay directly with a bank card will only be available in 2026.

This is a part of the ARTM's strategy to modernize the OPUS system, spearheaded by their Concerto Team.

In April, ARTM introduced an update that enables users to buy fares and transfer them to the OPUS card through their smartphones.

Overall, it’s safe to say that Montreal commuters can look forward to a more convenient transit experience in the near future!
