Euphoria's long-awaited third season will finally start filming in just a few months time - and three years after the last season began airing.

The smash hit HBO show stars Zendaya as troubled teen Ruby 'Rue' Bennett who struggles with drug addiction while navigating the trials of high school and adolescence.

Francesca Orsi, Executive VP of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films, confirmed the third season will begin filming at the beginning of 2025 with the principal cast returning.

She said in a statement on Friday, "I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January.

"We could not be happier with our creative partnership with (show creator) Sam (Levinson) and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans."

The first season of the drama aired back in 2019, while the second was delayed until 2022 due to the Covid pandemic.

The third season has been delayed due to strike action in the TV and film industry, while the death of Angus Cloud, who played Fezco 'Fez' O'Neill, in July last year and a 2022 Daily Beast exposé alleging a "toxic" work environment has further hampered the progress of the show.

Barbie Ferreira, who played Katherine 'Kat' Hernandez, quit the series after the second season amid rumours that she clashed with show creator Sam.

However, she denied this in an interview with Variety last year, saying her exit was a "mutual decision" and added, "I actually did not walk off set... I did sprain my ankle once and had to go get an X-ray. Maybe that's what they mean?"

The series also stars Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney and Colman Domingo.
