Janice Smalls Combs, Sean 'Diddy' Combs' mother, has released a statement in defence of her son.

As the rapper faces allegations of sex trafficking and sexual abuse, his mum said in the statement shared with multiple news outlets, "I come to you today as a mother that is devastated and profoundly saddened by the allegations made against my son, Sean Combs.

"It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies," the lengthy release, shared by her attorney, Natlie G Figgers, went on.

"To bear witness to what seems to be like a public lynching of my son before he has had the opportunity to prove his innocence is a pain too unbearable to put into words. Like every human being, my son deserves to have this day in court, to finally share his side, and to prove his innocence."

Janice went on to explain that her son has made mistakes in his past, and not been entirely truthful about certain things. This was in reference to the 2016 footage published by CNN in May in which Combs appeared to be violently assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel.

Janice's statement claimed, "Not being entirely straightforward about one issue does not mean my son is guilty of the repulsive allegations and the grave charges levelled against him."

Last month, Combs was arrested on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution.

Combs pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was denied bail twice, and remanded to Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn until his trial.
