Gwen Stefani had "lots of fights" over the hairstyle she wore to perform at Coachella earlier this year.

The Hollaback Girl singer reunited with her No Doubt bandmates to headline the California festival across two weekends in April.

Gwen worked with her hairstylist Suzette Boozer to create a hairstyle that was reminiscent of the original No Doubt days but also fresh and current.

After many disagreements, they settled upon a ponytail that made her hair look like tassels.

"(There were) lots of fights about the hair," Gwen told Harper's Bazaar for its Fashion Flashback video series. "Suzette, she's always trying to push me to go as far as possible as I'm always like, 'I've done all of them. I need to grow up.' She was like, 'No, but what if we do tassels?' She kind of showed me this and I was just like, 'I don't know.' I was stressed. Long story short: She did it, she killed it. They float in the wind and they were just this evolution of everything I'd done but we were in the future, now."

For the high-energy headlining set, the Don't Speak hitmaker wore a red and black plaid romper by Roberto Cavalli with fishnet sleeves and tights.

Gwen noted that she "was dying" inside the "hot" stage costume but it was "worth it" because it fit the occasion perfectly.

"When we wear thinking about looks, it was like, 'How do we do something that feels like the past but it elevates to where we're at right now,'" the 55-year-old shared, adding that the outfit was "so on point".
