Ariana Grande is finally able to "have fun" with red carpet fashion after years of finding the events to be "weird".

During an interview with W Magazine, the popstar and Wicked actress recalled her first-ever red carpet look back in 2009. She attended the AFI Fest premiere of Wes Anderson's stop-motion animation Fantastic Mr. Fox even though she wasn't associated with the film.

Ariana, who wore a green dress and matching heels to the event, admitted she didn't understand the point of getting dressed up to pose on a red carpet at the time.

When asked about her first red carpet outfit, she replied, "A little green minidress. It was the premiere of Fantastic Mr. Fox, and I had bright red hair because I was on Victorious at the time. I had a little cat eye because even then I loved that. I remember being really proud that I was invited to anything at all, but also thinking, 'This is so weird! Why do we do this? Why is this a thing?'"

However, her attitude towards the publicity events have changed over the years, as she noted, "I'm able to have fun with it now."

Ariana first gained attention as an actress in the Nickelodeon series Victorious and its spin-off Sam & Cat before skyrocketing to fame as a singer. She recently returned to acting with the two-part movie musical Wicked and threw herself into the fashion aspect of the press tour in November.

Previously, her co-star Cynthia Erivo revealed that she and Ariana send each other fashion recommendations.

"I'll send her, 'I saw this, what do you think of that?' For her. And she'll send me something like, 'I saw this and I think it's very you Cynthia,'" she explained on the Las Culturistas podcast. "We're the worst influences for each other because we sort of like get what we need and what we want."
