Montreal hasn’t seen this much snow in such a short time in a while, but it’s now confirmed—the city received a record-breaking 40 centimetres of snow in its second major storm in less than a week.

With officials urging residents to stay off the roads and work from home, nearly all schools have been forced to close. Authorities estimate it could take up to eight days to remove all the snow that fell over the weekend and last Thursday.

This storm has officially ranked as the seventh-highest single-day snowfall ever recorded in Montreal and the 10th biggest snowstorm in the city’s history.

Environment Canada has issued a blowing snow advisory for Monday, warning that road traffic could be affected by significantly reduced visibility and accumulating snow.

Due to the storm, the City of Montreal is asking residents to avoid non-essential travel until Monday evening.
