Huge news for commuters between Montreal and Toronto—a high-speed rail is finally coming to Canada!
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Wednesday morning in Montreal that the project will be “the largest infrastructure project in Canadian history.”
With an estimated cost of $3.9 billion, the rail line will run from Quebec City to Toronto, with stops in Trois-Rivières, Montreal, Ottawa, and Peterborough.
The train will reach speeds of up to 300 km/h, cutting travel time between Montreal and Toronto to just three hours—significantly faster than VIA Rail’s current five-hour journey.
According to Trudeau, the project will stimulate the economy by creating 51,000 jobs during construction.
