It’s truly the end of an era! Microsoft has announced that Skype, the once-popular video-calling service, will be shutting down in May.
That’s right—what was once one of the world’s leading platforms for free video and voice calls is officially closing for good on May 5, 2025.
However, Skype users can still stay connected by signing into Microsoft Teams with their existing accounts to access all their chats and contacts.
Originally launched in 2003, Skype was acquired by Microsoft in 2011 in what was then its biggest-ever acquisition.
