King Charles III will return to public duties this week following his brief hospitalisation.

The British monarch was admitted to The London Clinic on Thursday last week after experiencing "temporary side effects" as a result of his ongoing cancer treatment.

After taking medical advice, King Charles cancelled a scheduled appearance in Birmingham last Friday, and spent the weekend resting at Highgrove, his estate in Gloucestershire.

On Monday it was confirmed he will return to official duties in the next few days, including a meeting with the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

King Charles and Queen Camilla's upcoming state visit to Italy is also set to go ahead, during which the couple are scheduled to attend a series of public and diplomatic events in Rome and Ravenna. The trip will also coincide with the King and Queen's 20th wedding anniversary, which is on 9 April.

The 76-year-old monarch was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February 2024 and continues to receive treatment.

King Charles spent a short time in hospital last Thursday after experiencing what was described as a "bump in the road" amid his treatment. He was said to be "feeling good" upon his release.
