Aimee Lou Wood was thrilled watching people try to find meaning in her costumes in The White Lotus.
The highly popular murder-mystery show is constantly scrutinised and over-analysed by fans who try to find Easter eggs and decipher their meaning to help them predict which character dies at the end of the season.
The Sex Education actress enjoyed watching the analysis of her character's Chelsea clothes and seeing people assign meaning to items that didn't have any.
"Media literacy is back! People are talking about the symbolism! Oh my God, I love that," she told GQ. "It's so fun seeing people do a whole b**ody paragraph about an item of clothing that was accidentally put on me, but the meaning they've put on it is so clever. If we had done that, that would have been really clever - but we simply did not."
Wood didn't specify which piece of clothing she was referring to, however, Chelsea's "Stay Gold" necklace drew particular attention on the Internet. It is believed to be inspired by a line in the 1983 film The Outsiders or a reference to Robert Frost's poem Nothing Gold Can Stay, which many used to successfully predict Chelsea's demise.
Elsewhere in the interview, the British actress admitted she was filled with insecurity at the end of the first week of filming in Thailand when a producer told her that creator Mike White fought for her to play Chelsea.
"Someone told me how much Mike had fought for me. They said, 'It had to be you, no matter what HBO said.' It was honestly from the nicest place, but my little head goes: 'HBO didn't want me. And I know why HBO didn't want me, it's because I'm ugly.' Mike had to say, 'Please let me have the ugly girl!'" she admitted with a laugh. "That was the thing that was in my head."
The third season of The White Lotus concluded on Sunday.
