Big changes could be coming to schools across Quebec by fall 2025.
Following a recommendation by the Special Commission on the Impacts of Screens and Social Media on the Health and Development of Young People, cellphones could be completely banned from elementary and secondary schools as early as September 2025.
In addition to cellphones, the commission also recommends that the Quebec government ban headphones and other mobile devices, including those used for video games, from all school grounds.
This proposed move would build on the existing classroom cellphone ban that has been in place since the beginning of 2024.
The final report outlining these new recommendations is expected to be submitted by the end of May 2025.
