During a press conference in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Scott Moir had some carefully chosen words for journalists, and it sounds like he and Tessa Virtue are dating! The newly-crowned King and Queen of couples’ figure skating are this year’s Pyeongchang gold medalists and the most decorate couple in the sport’s history.
During the conference, a journalist asked Moir what’s been on everyone’s minds: now that he and Virtue are retiring, will they start dating?
He began by saying it’s “none of your business”, before giving a more nuanced, and slightly cryptic, response. He first spoke about why they’re not currently dating, due to “a very committed relationship with our sport. […]I just honestly don’t know where you would find time for that.”
But his next words, spoken while Virtue smiled knowingly beside him, have given fans fresh hopes that there’s something more between the two: “Part of the reason maybe why we wouldn’t continue [skating] was to open up that side of our life [romantic] maybe and see where that goes. And that’s as personal as I’ll get, but let’s see what happens.” Is it possible that Virtue and Moir will use their retirement to explore a more romantic relationship? It certainly sounds that way.
Like their figure skating routines, this pair’s media appearances are likely to take on a highly-choreographed, predetermined routine. They’re perfectly positioned to steal the world’s heart, and it looks like they’re planning on doing exactly that!
More to come… Hopefully!
