Millions of adults will cook their first-ever Christmas dinner this year and have been 'practicing' in the run-up to the big day. According to a new study, a 5th of people will attempt a whole feast for the first time. 1/4 of those people have been practicing for their Christmas dinner for a while now and 57% consider the meal to be the culinary highlight of the year.

  • 32 percent admitted their first point of call for advice is their mum.
  • 56 percent of those cooking dinner will stick with tradition.
  • 23 percent will throw the rule book out of the window and add a few modern twists.

PREP AHEAD
Most parts of a Christmas dinner can be cooked or prepped ahead of time. 

GET PEOPLE INVOLVED
Get some help from those who live with you.

COOK WHAT YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH
If you don’t like a roast dinner, or don’t feel comfortable cooking one, then why not do something else special? Make sure you a confidant in what you are cooking

KEEP ON TOP OF THE MESS
Cooking any big meal can create a lot of washing up so keep up by washing a little at a time so it doesn't become overwhelming.

WRITE A LIST AND GET ALL YOUR INGREDIENTS
Get your to-dos and timings down on a piece of paper and make sure that you have all your ingredients beforehand

DON'T BE TOO WORRIED ABOUT IT
If the turkey is a little dry or your sprouts are overdone, don't worry about it.
