Justin Timberlake is well aware he will never be able to live down the double denim outfit he wore to match then-girlfriend Britney Spears' own all-denim look.

The NSYNC star and his famous ex hit the red carpet at the 2001 American Music Awards wearing their denim ensembles, with Britney donning a strapless two-tone denim dress and Justin opting for denim trousers, jacket, and hat with a blue top.

The infamous outfits may be almost 20 years old but they are still one of the most frequently shared red carpet looks, and Justin knows people will never let him forget the fashion faux pas.

"I confess that there was maybe a period in the '90s where I could skip over some of the outfits that were public, but the Internet will never," he grinned during a songwriters roundtable for The Hollywood Reporter, before John Legend chipped in.

"Denim on denim on denim on denim that will never be forgotten!" the singer joked, before Justin replied: "Thanks, John... Uh, no, the internet won't allow me to forget them. So it's all good."

The 40-year-old, who is now married to actress Jessica Biel, told his NSYNC bandmate Lance Bass on his podcast, The Lance Bass Show, last year that he doesn't regret the look and insisted that you "can kind of rock that one today".

Explaining why they opted for the matching outfits in the first place, he said, "You do a lot of things when you're young and in love".

He also admitted he regrets some of his '90s hairstyles, such as cornrows, bleached-blond curls, and bandanas, among others.
