Having cancelled their 2020 edition, organizers of Montreal's International Jazz Festival have now announced plans to hold their 2021 edition in September.
In addition to the Jazz Fest, Les Francos de Montréal has also been announced to return this year. The two festivals will take place one week apart with Francos kicking off on Sept. 9 to 12, and the Jazz Fest running from Sept. 15 to 19 at Place des Festivals.
"We can't wait to see the microphones hook up, the lights come on the stages, the musicians playing, the singers singing," wrote L'Équipe Spectra Vice-President Laurent Saulnier, an organizer for the events.
"We will follow the evolution of the health situation closely,” he wrote, adding that the festivals will follow public health guidelines "in order to ensure the safety of festival-goers, artists and employees."
According to a press release from the festival, the “vast majority” of indoor concerts planned for the upcoming summer will be postponed until 2022, and anyone who purchased ticket last year should keep them as they will be valid next summer.
Last year's cancellation marked the first time in 40 years that the Montreal International Jazz Festival did not take place.
