For the first time in 25 years, Lady Diana’s iconic wedding dress will be on display at Kensington Palace.
On July 29th 1981, Lady Diana and Prince Charles married at St Paul's Cathedral in London, now known as the wedding of the century. With over 750 million viewers in over 74 countries, Lady Di walked the aisle in a beautiful white gown with her 25-foot long silk train following along behind her. It truly was a real-life fairytale that took the world by storm.
The ivory silk taffeta and antique lace gown was made by Welsh designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel, which came out to £9000 at the time that she got married. In 2019, the dress grew in value to a total of £151,000. Costs aside, Diana’s impeccable taste in fashion launched a trend in wedding dress designs as puffed sleeves were all anyone could talk about.

25 years later, the iconic wedding gown can now be viewed by the public at Kensington Palace in a beautiful glass casing. According to Cosmopolitan magazine, “Prince William and Prince Harry have lent the gown to the exhibition, titled 'Royal Style In The Making', which is on show at Kensington Palace from 3rd June until 2nd January 2022 and aims to explore the partnership between designers and the British monarchy.”
Although most of us here in Canada won’t be travelling to Britain anytime soon, we are pleased to see Lady Di’s legacy carrying on.
