At a press conference on Thursday, Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé announced that the province would be easing COVID-19 restrictions for several places including theatres, cinemas, and indoor events.

According to Dubé, all Quebec establishments with assigned seating can fill their seats to maximum capacity as of October 8, provided they check vaccine passports and people wear masks.

That, of course, means the Montreal Canadiens will be able to fill all 21,302 seats at the Bell Center starting next week!

Here's a list of various places and gatherings that will no longer need to limit the number of guests or spectators in Quebec:

  • Theatres
  • Cinemas
  • Sports arenas
  • TV and film sets
  • Outdoor stadiums
  • Outdoor amphitheatres
  • Conventions and conferences
  • Assemblies
  • Graduation or recognition ceremonies

As for assemblies, meetings, and graduation or recognition ceremonies— proof of vaccine passports won’t be needed if there are less than 250 people. However, the vaccine passport will only be mandatory if the current limit of 250 people is exceeded indoors.

For outdoor sites, the vaccine passport will be required if the current limit of 500 people is exceeded.

Restrictions will remain on the size of gatherings in smaller quarters and for activities such as dancing in clubs because the risks are much higher, Quebec public health director Horacio Arruda said.

“When you’re in a house with 10 people, the interaction is very, very different,” he said. “The risk of transmission of COVID-19 in that space is far more elevated than in an auditorium. … It’s the same thing for restaurants and bars.”
