A walk to raise funds for kids with cognitive and physical disabilities is happening this weekend in the Laval area.
Make it Matter, a non-profit organization, has partnered with Academie de L’enfance school (ADE), and will be raising funds to meet the needs of families whose children require additional learning support and resources by hosting a public walk this Sunday in Sainte-Dorothée. Read below for more informatiton on how to participate.
We had the opportunity to chat with their Integration Services Coordinator to find out more on the event and the work that ADE and Make It Matter are doing:
What is Make It Matter's mission?
Make It Matter's aim is to provide equitable, inclusive and access to high quality education for all students within the greater Montreal area. Make it Matter will fund project-specific initiatives and provide resources to families in need in order to break through existing barriers that limit opportunities for children. We hope to support children in meeting their full potential and see them through their years as learners!
What should readers know about ADE school?
Academie de L'enfance (ADE) is an inclusive preschool and early childhood development center in the heart of Sainte-Dorothée, Laval. ADE's mission is to provide an enriching educational experience that supports the positive social, emotional, cognitive, physical and language development of each child. We follow an inclusive education model that promotes the inclusion of children with special needs in the classroom. Our centre offers children with special needs the support of specialists in the classroom, along with access to a network of child development professionals.
What type of learning support and resources does ADE offer?
ADE follows an inclusive education model which ensures that all children receive accommodation and are provided with equal opportunities for enriching experiences in early childhood. The curriculum is designed so that all children can participate in activities that promote development. These early experiences are critical for the positive development & outcomes of each child. Inclusive education benefits everyone involved by teaching empathy and diversity, friendships amongst all children, offering positive behaviour, and setting higher expectations for all children, with or without disabilities.
Knowing that these services can be costly for some families, how does ADE plan on raising funds in partnership with Make It Matter?
This cost is extreme and sometimes unattainable, which often requires families to put their trust into the public system with year long waitlists for services. ADE plans on raising money in partnership with Make It Matter in order to relieve the financial burden of families with children with special needs. We will be launching a series of fundraising events such as Walk with Make It Matter happening November 7th at 609 Rue Principale, Laval, and a workout series taking place every Monday and Wednesday at 7:30pm at the same location.
When and where does your event take place?
Walk with Make it Matter will be taking place on Sunday, November 7th from 10am to 12pm. As part of the event, we will be walking through the beautiful town of old Saint-Dorothée! The walk will kick off at 609 Rue Principale, Laval. For more information on the walking route, you can click here.
For those who cannot attend but would still like to donate, we also have an online donation open on our event's page. All proceeds will be going to our ADE families with special needs children to participate in the Integration Program offered here at the preschool.
