Seven-year-old Callan Perks of Lakefield, Ontario brought talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres to tears when he appeared on her show Wednesday.
The enthusiastic young hockey fan gained attention worldwide after his passionate pre-game speech to his hometown hockey team went viral in November.
He was selected by the team as part of their 'Next Gen' day, where kids sign single-day contracts to see what it's like to be part of a professional hockey league. The speech was so popular, the hockey team began selling Coach Cal t-shirts and it didn’t take long before he was invited to appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Perks, who goes by the name “Coach Cal” spoke about his love for motivating others and ended his interview with a special speech explaining why he thinks Ellen is special.
“When it's time to say goodbye and turn out the lights, just remember that you Ellen will always get the W because you have given whatever it takes to be you. So just keep working hard and staying positive and making people laugh because you are a legend."
DeGeneres thanked the boy and gifted Cal with a personalized tracksuit, clipboard, and megaphone for his future speeches.
"I have to say I know a lot of fancy people I know a lot of people and what you just said to me means more to me than what I can possibly convey to you that was the sweetest I don't even know you," she says. "But you are just a special little being with such a big heart and I thank you for that."
