Quebec parents are beginning to grow major concerns about the lack of baby formula stock in the province, due to a recent distributor shut down in the United States.
One of the United States’ largest formula distribution sites, Abbott, recalled its products in February after four illnesses were reported in babies who had consumed their products from its Michigan plant.
According to CBC News, “The disruptions at Abbott, the United States' largest formula maker, are causing supply issues for specific hypoallergenic formulas across Canada.”
This halt in distribution goes beyond just the limited supply of Abbott products as other brands are also disappearing from shelves due to panic buying.
Quebec health officials have reassured parents that they are working hard to find other resources.
In the meantime, many parents are pulling out all of the stops by searching for baby formula on places like Marketplace and Kijiji, as this situation is putting them in a tough position of not knowing how they will feed their children once supply runs out.
