According to research, 3% of the Canadian population suffers from Environmental and chemical hypersensitivity. This health issue causes victims to have inflammation of the bronchi, asthma attacks, and other problems when being faced with a very strong chemical scent.
In certain areas, such as Ottawa, chemical fragrances have been banned from being used in hospitals, in order to answer the needs of those affected.
In Quebec, the question was raised whether hospitals should do the same. Some also suggested that fragrances be banned in essential service areas, such as adapted public transport.
