If we had to describe a true Queen-like move, it would be Lisa Laflamme's nomination for Best Canadian News Anchor.
The iconic Journalist was recently nominated for Best Canadian News Anchor at the 2023 Canadian Screen Awards (though this is nothing new to her, as Laflamme has already won this award in 2014, 2021 and 2022).
What lead her to these wins and new nomination? Some could say her work for CTV National News, or again her long-standing experience in the industry. For us, it's all about the message she put out to women in the news industry last year.
When Lisa was let go by CTV last year, many questioned if the media company had decided to replace her due to her recent grey hair. Topics of sexism and ageism in the workplace were raised, questioning whether women are treated fairly in the media industry as they gain years of experience in the workplace.
“I’m still shocked and saddened,” Lisa had said in a published tweet at the time. “At 58, I still thought I’d have a lot more time to tell more of the stories that impact our daily lives.”
One thing we can say is, 'You go, Lisa!' This Journalist proves to women that they should own their grey hair and that contrary to what some would believe, it represents power!!
