Justin Timberlake has been trolled after he announced the name of his new single is "Selfish".

The singer revealed his new record will be released on 25 January.

The single Selfish is the first song off his sixth studio album, Everything I Thought I Was.

People were quick to point out that the name of the single was "appropriate" and "autobiographical" in the wake of ex-girlfriend's Britney Spears' claims about their relationship.

Britney revealed last year that she fell pregnant when she was dating Justin between 1999 and 2002.

"It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn't a tragedy," she wrote in her memoir The Woman In Me. "I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I'd anticipated. But Justin definitely wasn't happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren't ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."

She went on talk about having a termination: "If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn't want to be a father. To this day, it's one of the most agonising things I have ever experienced in my life."

After Justin announced the new single, comments quickly piled up on his social media pages:

"An autobiographical song based on the title,' one person wrote.

"Given his past I'd say this is appropriately titled." agreed another.

Britney also has a song called Selfish that was a bonus track on her Femme Fatale album in 2011.
