It’s been exactly one year since the passing of Quebec's very own Fred La Marmotte… And now his successor, named Fred Junior, has revealed what the rest of the winter weather will entail and well… he did not see his shadow, which means we’re getting an early spring!
That’s right – Spring is just around the corner according to Fred Junior!
For those who don’t know what Groundhog Day is exactly, it’s a Pennsylvania Dutch superstition claiming that if a groundhog comes out from the ground and sees its own shadow due to clear weather, winter will persist for another six weeks. However, if the groundhog fails to see its shadow, spring will get here early!
Quebec isn’t the only province to have its own groundhog. For example, Nova Scotia has Shubenacadie Sam while Ontario is home to Wiarton Willie.
