Car thieves might be stopped once and for all, and this all thanks to a Montreal-developed app!

Polytechnique graduate and current engineer Jean Poulin developed a kill-switch mechanism that is placed under the dashboard of the vehicle and connected to the owner's smartphone. Thieves are unable to start the car without access to the IKS Technologies app by Poulin.

According to Poulin, in case thieves attempt to tow the car, a motion detector will promptly alert the car owner.

A car is estimated to be stolen every 37 minutes in Quebec, but using this app could potentially prevent such incidents.

The app creator assures that the app, which necessitates a monthly subscription fee, is fully secure with two-factor authentication.

While the app is nearing completion in its final development stages, Poulin's system is anticipated to be ready by the end of summer.
