Rob Lowe has recalled being knocked out cold by Tom Cruise during a boisterous sparring match.
The duo worked together on Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders when Rob was 17 and Tom was 19 and it seems things got boisterous while working together.
Speaking to The Rich Eisen Show, Rob, now 60, recalled, "(Tom is) so competitive that we used to box in the hallway of the hotel we were staying at during Outsiders.
"So much testosterone. We're 18-year-old guys stuck on location. So we would have headgear, and we'd have mouthpieces in, but we would legitimately spar."
Explaining one particularly physical incident against Tom, who is himself now 62, Rob recounted, "I rang his bell, and the next I knew, I woke up. I was coming to, on the floor. And he, like, completely knocked me out."
He added, "His eyes just went black, but that's the stuff we did. That's what guys do. Like Fight Club."
The 1983 film is based on the 1967 novel by S.E. Hinton, and a stage production of the story, produced by Angelina Jolie, is currently enjoying success on Broadway.
The film version had an all-star cast that included a string of rising stars from the 1980s era, with Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, and Diane Lane all playing key roles.
