US country music artist Ingrid Andress has revealed she was intoxicated during her much-criticised performance of the national anthem.

Her rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner at the 2024 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, evoked a barrage of criticism on Monday.

On Tuesday, Andress posted an apology on Instagram to fans for her off-key performance and revealed she was checking into rehab.

"I'm not going to bulls**t y'all, I was drunk last night," she candidly shared. "I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologise to MLB, all the fans and this country I love so much for that rendition."

She ended the note by writing, "Let y'all know how rehab is I hear it's super fun".

Andress debuted her first album, Lady Like, in 2020, which reached number one on Billboard's Emerging Artists chart.

She was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy in 2021, although she ultimately lost out to rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

Andress's newest album, Good Person, was released in 2022. She shared recently on social media that she was "so stoked" to announce her new single Colorado 9, which releases next week.

She also announced two shows, one in Nashville on 17 July and one in Denver on 24 July.

Both shows have now been cancelled.
