Canada Post’s 55,000 striking workers will return to work at 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday, December 17, following an order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board.

After two days of hearings over the weekend, the board ruled that negotiations between the Crown corporation and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have reached an impasse.

In the meantime, Canada Post has agreed with the union to implement a 5% wage increase, retroactive to the day after the previous collective agreements expired. The company also announced that the terms of the current contract will be extended until May 22, 2025.
