Liam Payne's girlfriend has given her first interview since his death.

Kate Cassidy, who was with the singer in Argentina before leaving their holiday early, has opened up about losing her boyfriend and why she left him behind in Buenos Aires.

"It still doesn't feel fully real for me that he's not here," the influencer said in an emotional interview with The Sun, published on Wednesday.

"I'm trying to be the best I can be, but I feel like my life has changed so much. I think about Liam every second of every day."

Kate, 25, explained she had flown to Florida to care for their dog and had expected Liam to follow her not long afterwards, adding they often travelled separately.

"We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur," she explained.

"Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out at the end. Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina."

She recalled that when she first learned of the former One Direction star's death, she assumed it was a hoax.

"I didn't believe it at first. I thought it was just a rumour. Or something that somebody made up just to get views," she said.

"Then instantly I just had a bad feeling in my gut. I was like, 'Why would somebody make this up? Is this true?' And I feel like I just completely blacked out."
