Chappell Roan sees her blue eyeshadow as a "teeny rebellion" to beauty magazine editors who discourage people from wearing the shade.
The Pink Pony Club singer doesn't hold back with her make-up looks during public appearances and can often be seen wearing white foundation, a red lip, and bold, colourful eyeshadow on the red carpet.
In a recent interview with ELLE, Chappell explained that she gravitates towards blue eyeshadow partly because she likes to rebel against conventional beauty advice.
"I just think it is the prettiest, and I read in so many magazines that you are not supposed to wear blue eyeshadow if you have blue eyes. I am a rebel at heart so that is a teeny rebellion that I do quite a lot," she shared.
The 27-year-old did her own make-up personally and professionally until her career took off over the past year.
When asked for the most amount of time she's taken to pull off a look, Chappell cited the excessive clown make-up she wore in the music video for her 2022 single My Kink Is Karma.
In the video, her face is covered in red paint except for a white heart shape in the middle. She also rocks elaborate eye make-up featuring layers of blue eyeshadow, glitter, and heavy false lashes.
"The most amount of time it's taken to do my make-up has been probably four and a half hours to do the My Kink Is Karma make-up. I was just learning to lay down my brows and fully paint," she divulged.
In stark contrast, when she's off-duty, the Good Luck, Babe! hitmaker can complete her beauty routine in five minutes.
"The least amount of time is my day-to-day, if I even wear make-up, which most of the time, I don't. I wear just mascara, brow gel, cheek tint, lip tint, and maybe some highlighter. And if I'm really feeling it, I'll put on some Glossier concealer," she added.
