A rough start to the week for some Quebecers, as freezing rain has left around 40,000 households without power.

Quebec was expected to receive up to 10 millimeters of freezing rain between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

According to Hydro-Québec spokesperson Caroline Des Rosiers, the outages were caused by ice accumulation on vegetation.

Most power failures occurred in the Laurentians and Lanaudière regions.
