Students at F.A.C.E. School took to the streets Thursday morning to protest the Quebec government’s decision to sell their downtown Montreal building instead of renovating it.

The government cited rising renovation costs as the reason behind the sale. However, the move has sparked outrage among students and parents, as the decision will see approximately 1,300 students—from kindergarten to Grade 11—relocated to two separate campuses: École Christophe-Colomb and École Saint-Urbain, starting next school year.

The English Montreal School Board says it was not consulted before the province announced the sale.

A petition to stop the sale is currently circulating, with a goal of 10,000 signatures by May 21. You can sign it here.
